A Guide for New Arrivals
Ten simple stations to make your key, name yourself, and speak your first words in the room. No password. No company account. Just you and your key.
Open cloister.pages.dev on your phone or computer. On the side (or bottom) menu, find the row of little icons.
Tap Keys — this is where your identity is born.
Nobody signs you up here. You make your own key, right on your own device.
Tap it once. In an instant, a brand-new identity is created — just for you.
Skip this — tap Import Profile instead, and paste your existing nsec to bring your identity into The Cloister.
You'll now see two long codes appear. Copy both into your phone's Notes app, or write them on paper.
Once both codes are safely written down, tick the box that says:
Only do this after your codes are really saved somewhere you won't lose.
Set a short passphrase so your key stays locked on this device — useful if others share your phone or computer. It never leaves your browser, and you'll enter it each time you open The Cloister here.
Tap Profile in the menu, then fill in the Display name box with your name or nickname — however you want to be known here.
In a new browser tab, visit one of these free sites to claim a human-friendly Nostr address:
cosanostr.com zaps.lolThey'll give you something like yourname@zaps.lol — this proves your profile is really you.
Copy the address you were given (for example yourname@zaps.lol) and paste it into the About field on your Cloister profile.
Tap this button to send your name and address out into the network. Your profile is now live.
Go to Home, type a few words in the box, and post. That's your first message into The Cloister.
Share this address with the next person you want to welcome in. They'll enter it to begin their own journey from Station I.
